A Letter From
Your New Editor.... |
A "Thank You" from
Judge Karl Grube |
I would be remiss in beginning a new editorship in the wake of
our original trailblazer, Judge Rad Smith, and his successor, Judge Steve Rushing, without
mentioning their years of service to the conference. We are all grateful to them and
members of their loyal staff for undertaking the enormous responsibility of publishing the
County Court Courier.
Having completed my first issue, I realize how much dedication
these two judges had to their colleagues and to the conference. With this in mind, I have
followed much of the same format as previous Couriers, while taking some liberty in
addressing issues I feel are important to all county judges. I have summarized some of the
new laws affecting many of our divisions, but not all. I would be glad to expand this
forum if enough interest is generated in these types of articles.
I look forward to your comments, suggestions, and
recommendations, and of course, letters to the editor!Peggy Gehl

My fellow County Court Judges, please accept my heartfelt "thank you"
for the Harvey Ford Award. I am deeply moved to be counted among those who have
received this honor.
Having worked with Harvey for many years in our Conference and
being numbered among his many friends, I came to know him as a kind, hard-working,
generous, and thoughtful individual. To receive an award inspired by Harvey Ford is
an event of great significance to me and one that I will always cherish.
As I look at this award proudly displayed in my office, I will be
mindful of the qualities that Harvey stood for both on and off of the bench. It will
serve as a daily reminder to me to strive to carry on the legacy of Harvey Ford.
Yours truly,Karl B. Grube

| Artist Lydia
Friedland shows in Hollywood
Lydia Friedland, wife of County Judge Ken Friedland (Brevard), is
one of four Florida artists who exhibited through September 26th at the ARt and Culture
Center of Hollywood, Florida in Amalgam: Multi-media Fusions by Four Florida Artists.
Friedland's work involves sewing dresses and other women's
garments from screen, staples, aluminum metals, and open scizzors. She learned to
sew as a child and her early interest blossomed into sculpted clothing using ideas
garnered from her family's hardware store. She creates garments that resemble armor,
beadwork, and organic material. The works reflect her concerns about social
injustice, domestic violence, rape and eating disorders. |
